Saxion supports a good balance between work and private life. After all, sufficient energy in private life makes for more energy at work. Here you have a number of choices, which we will explain below: Agreements on working days and working hours In consultation with your manager you decide how long and when you will work. For example, many programmes offer evening courses. As a result, working between 8.30 and 17.00 hours will not be standard procedure, because agreements will be made on a personal level. Build up of extra days leave The standard number of working hours for full time employees (1.0 FTE) is 36. You have the option to work more hours on a weekly basis: 38 or 40 hours. On a yearly basis, you work as many hours as someone who chooses to work 36 hours per week. The advantage of working more hours per week is that you collect additional days leave. With these additional days leave you obtain relatively many days holiday. This makes it possible for you to have (a large part of) the HBO (higher professional education) holiday weeks off. Also, if you are working in part-time employment, you can select this method for acquiring additional days leave.

Working at Saxion means working in the field of higher education. Pension accrual with the Algemeen Burgerlijk Pensioenfonds (ABP, Dutch Public Servants Superannuation Fund) is a part of this. ABP offers financial security in the event of retirement, disability and death. Retirement from the age of 60 is possible. In the event of your death, your partner receives a pension benefit. Save for additional pension or early retirement Besides the regular pension accrual you have the option to save more. Flexible options are available; you can choose to retire from work early or to receive a higher pension. At Saxion you have the possibility to consult with an ABP consultant several times a year. When you take up employment at Saxion we will extensively inform you about ABP and what measures you yourself can take in this respect.

Saxion believes it is important that employees have the possibility to take good care of their children. Saxion offers any employee working more than 0.4 FTE a paid parental leave scheme in two variations. This scheme means that you can opt for a parental leave of 13 weeks (13 times the weekly working hours), in which case Saxion will pay 50% of the parental leave. If you opt for a parental leave of 26 weeks (26 times the weekly working hours), you will receive 25%. Furthermore, we will continue the accrual of your pension entitlements and the basis for your social security (such as reduced pay and benefit received under the Work and Income (capacity for Work) Act will remain unaffected. Saxion also takes care of the payment of the premiums involved, as if no parental leave is taken. Besides the employer's contribution, Saxion also pays the premiums, which you would normally pay for yourself, over the part for which you enjoy leave. In this way Saxion takes care of any concerns you might have, which allows you to return well rested.

More net salary in December! Saxion already has an excellent year-end bonus. In addition to this, you can now also make use of the Fiscal Travel Allowance Scheme. This scheme allows you to make use of the tax allowance in the area of travelling costs. The tax allowance is the difference between the amount your employer will pay to you for commuting costs, and the amount which may be compensated from a fiscal point of view. An amount that you would otherwise have received as a gross amount, may be paid out net under this scheme. This makes for an attractive tax advantage. Model calculation: Let's assume that in any year Saxion pays €1,000 on travel allowance to an employee. From a fiscal point of view, €1,700 is permitted. The tax allowance is therefore €700. This €700 is paid out in the month of December as a net rather than a gross amount. The profit for the employee is the circumstance that no payroll tax and social security contributions are to be paid out over this €700, which most of the time amounts to 40%. The larger the travel distance from home to the workplace, the higher the advantage can be.

Do you live in a different region and do you have the intention of moving for your (new) job with Saxion in Apeldoorn, Deventer or Enschede? If you move your place of residence to where your work is located, you are eligible for an allowance for your moving expenses. You have, in that case, an appointment for, at least, one year and your employment amounts to a minimum of 0.4 FTE. Also, the travel distance from your current place of residence to your new work place amounts to more than one hour by public transport. If you qualify for this, you receive 12% of your annual salary up to a maximum of €5446 and an allowance for removal expenses. This idea is well worth considering! Ask for more information during your introductory meeting.
